Killing Us Softly 4....Is Beauty Really Only Skin Deep?

This video explains the way women are dehumanized in advertisments and commericals. Women are always being displayed as sexually craved animals. The ones that suffer from the nonsense commericals are the youth. Almost every little girl has went through the "Why I don't look like her?" phase. Growing up I was that girl in middle school, but I realized that people liked me because I was myself. The confident chunky girl that didn't care what people said. The media tries to tell girls the smaller you are the prettier you will be. So young girls will do anything to become that "IT" girl.Causing major consequences like depression, abuse & low self esteem. Even seperating women in different categories, for example African American women are always some type of animal as Jean pointed out. Like we are exotic creatures. Little girls try to change their appearance to look like a celebrity. Its is hard for young women to realize that they don't look like their friends it really dampers there soul. A student in class said "We are taught if we feel bad go spend money, it makes you feel better." Being comfortable in your own skin is what people in this day and age don't understand.Subjecting women to diet pills and get thin fast schemes is not a way to make yourself feel good. We as people need to start uplifting each other. All of these commericals Jean Kilbourne was talking about on the film was how women are subjected to nonsense, but what about men?

Susie Fono: Holocaust survivor

Susie really confirmed that not only is there a God, but he is always on time. Just when her life could've ended he saved her just in time. Her dad really amazed me on how much he risk his life getting back to his family. " He would rather die trying to get back to us than in the camps." wow! courage and he did come back to them. I really enjoyed her and her husbands love for each other after so many years you can tell they are still deep in love with each other and she " run me" as Bob put it. The holocaust happened when she was a kid, but she can remember so much of the terrible event.

" Never forget that two words can make such a big difference. I love you can change a persons day, so call and tell your grandparents or parents you love them." " My son still comes in the house and give me a hug and kiss and tell me he loves me."

DreamWorld vs RealWorld

In the " Dream World" of music videos it consist of idealizing men as a womanizing creature that can have any girl they choose. Women are sexual driven creatures that wants to hump on any guy in sight. Not only is this ridiculously incorrect, but what the film didn't show was how the women are more than willing to do it. How they get paid pennies on the dollar to be half naked in videos and some just do it for publicity. The women aren't "disguising" it's the moral and value point of it that it. The girls go in the "modeling" business knowing what there getting into. Every man want the dream world life, so why not portray it in a fantasy video. Far as men doing it in the Real World is very ridiculous. Producers know that videos portray a fantasy that men want to fulfill. Nevertheless, most men keep fantasies as just that, a fantasy. I felt it was kinda crazy that every video they showed was mostly a hip hop one, like other genres of music don't have half naked, booty shaking, women in it.....just my observation.
Just a little humor! lol

ReThinking Identity: Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the many countries that was ripped from there independence. Everything was taking from them, even there spiritual dance, the Hula. After watching this video I became very sympathetic for the Hawaiians. I started to understand what African Americans had to go through, when my ancestors were tooken from there home land. Not wanting to give up there identity or life they once knew as perfect. Americans took their hospitality and used them for merchandising purposes. Building the Pearl Harbor and various different hotels on the beach that they were not allowed to go to. Once again Americans turned a country into a money target! It never fails....if we just keep our hands away from other peoples property we wouldn't be in so much debt. The high cost of living there caused diabetes to sky rock and death. Throughout it all Hawaiians came together to celebrate there life. A student in class said " We only purchased two things we ever owned everything else we took by force." This is very true not only did we take it, but we changed their surroundings. Tricked and manipulated them out of everything they owned.

ReThinking Governance & Citizenship

I rarely watch the news now, but after watching this video I really dislike it. The truth is that the News idealize the military, for the trouble Bush caused to the world. He was never really meant to be President, just trying to follow in daddy's footsteps. The news glorify war and bombings, we as people only get to hear one side of the story. Everyhing else is covered up for the government to know and we are naiive to the real facts of the problem. When something happen, like the flim explain it gets treated as " Must see Tv", watching the battle like its an award show. The News anchors are very dedicated to the bad, but rarely notices the good. They're risking there lives for Tv and for views, putting their self in horrible situations for stories we only hear the half of.  They even adapt the military language! glorifying it with music and emotional appeal.....not right. So, to answer the question of a fellow classmmate.....The truth, we never get... http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/militainment-inc/

Sampling music....is it Wrong or Right?

The factor of money is a major issue in the muisc business, sampling a song is okay in my book as long as the orignator gets credit for there work. Such artists as Jay-z & Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, etc sample music all the time, but some artists don't give credit to the orginator. All music has been sampled no one owns a beat, you have to pay for great music. People have been sampling songs for years but when artists started to find out about it they wanted money for it or credit. I believe it's wrong for any artist to sample someones music without some type of agreement with the orginator.

Music is Music sampled or not, some music is good and some not so much. Remaking music is the new thing everyone wants to remake a popular artist song.

http://ayahajime.hubpages.com/hub/Virtual-Worlds-Virtual-Love-True-Love-in-Virtual-Worlds

Virtual Love? is it everlasting, I don't think so because like the lady said you never really know a person until you live with them and a game world and real world are two different things. Somehow throughout the whole video I really was wondering was the two that moved in together relationship going to last. I felt as if everything was moving to fast and the funny laugh guy was very domanding. Virtual gaming has its ups but its mostly downs, in result the woman that was trying to help addicted gamers son died, because of that she started a program for addicts. The three friends lives were surrounded around the game, but some broke free from the habit of virtual gaming. Not only do I think virtual gaming is waste of time, but also a waste of life. God puts everyone on the earth for a purpose and wasting it on a game is not going to leave a mark on the world when  you die.

In class last night we watched a video on the music scene and what artists have to go through in order to make big bucks. Most of the artists make little to nothing after all the fancy videos and commerical spots are over. An artist like lil Wayne can put on the hottest show with all the tricks and fancy backgrounds on stage, but when it's all said and done he is paying for it out his pocket; now I realize why most of his videos are really crappy. I also learned the reason why I hear Beyonce every 5 minutes on the radio, she and her label are paying the radio stations to play her music. This is called Payola! (A NEW WORD YAY!) I always get mad when I hear the same songs being played over and over. Most of the radio's playlist of music are Payolas....they have to play it over and over again....I believe it's recorded. Artists like Brittany spears is apart of Senergy, which is an artist and a company in coherence with each other. Basically, I'll help you out if you return the favor. That's why my dad always told me it's better to be the producer than the actual artist. Coming from a talented family I know why my dad does most of hi own producing instead of having someone else do it, because you keep the money. Hey it pays to be a big artist!<3

Beyoncé - Diva

Interview with granny

Smith Daniesha 1/29/2012 Interview Name of Interviewee: Martha Whitaker Age or birth-Year: 64 Birthplace: Mississippi Relation to you: Grandmother Date interviewed: 1/29/2012 Place interviewed: Granny’s house Interviewed: in Person Q. Can you describe your childhood and the popular media that you and your family used? A. We used newspapers, we didn’t have a TV. Q. What was the earliest memory of television? A. When Kennedy died is when we got a television, daddy bought one then. Q. What was the telephone like when you were growing up? What was it like to have a party line? A. We didn’t have a telephone. Q. can you share an experience of going to the movie theatre? A. we didn’t have a movie theatre back then, it was still slavery. Q. How did you and your parents know who to support in political elections? A. My parents couldn’t vote it was still slavery Q. What forms of communication were present at school when you were a student? A. we use to have to write letters and talk to people around you, we really couldn’t communicate because there wasn’t a way. Q. Do you remember what advertising and commercials were like when you were growing up? What products were sold? What messages or slogans do you remember? A. We didn’t have a TV, we couldn’t watch one and I don’t remember anything to long ago. Q. Things have changed dramatically since your youth. What new forms of media have you adopted? A. I have a cellphone, internet and television sets are all over the house. Still don’t know how to work some of it, but I try. Q. How have media made your life easier or difficult? A. It has made it more difficult than anything because everything was much easier to use back then, now everything is electronic. Q. How have media changed the way you communicate with family? A. It hasn’t changed much; I can call them rather than write letters, I still communicate the same way. Q. How have media informed your understanding of politics and politicians? A. I read the news on the internet and watch the news on TV. Q. How has media changed the way you shop or do your banking? A. I still do it the old fashion way, I go to the bank and shop in the stores. Q. What forms of media do you use for entertainment? A. I watch workout on the Wii fit (Game), listen to music and watch TV or it’s watching me. My grandmothers’ youth was so much different from mines because she was still living in the slavery days were they couldn’t do anything, but work in the field and come home. She explained to me that everything they did was hard labor, but they had to do it. Mississippi was the state that didn’t want to let slavery go because they felt like they would lose all there consumers for agriculture. When I was young television sets were already in the home, but I barely watched it because I was outside so much. I played with friends and only watched TV on Saturdays. My mother didn’t really want us to be under the TV set so we were forced to go outside and play. I don’t read the newspaper at all I’m so use to the TV and internet giving me the information I can get out of a newspaper. That being the only form of media my great grandmother used for what was happening in the world is kind of crazy. I’m so use to having technology being everywhere even in the classrooms. When I was younger we had books and maybe went to the computer lab once a week to do online activities. I think the world is changing and we as humans try to keep up by building something new or creating technology. There are still some teachers that use books and try not to follow the new trend. I respect them for holding on to hope but you can’t be the only one with old school ways. Media is a big part of my life because I care my cellphone everywhere. I have heard people say “my cellphone is my life”; it really is because it’s a form of communicating with others. I feel really lost without it in my hand or in my pocket. If the media didn’t make technology seem so needed I don’t think people would have it.
