In class last night we watched a video on the music scene and what artists have to go through in order to make big bucks. Most of the artists make little to nothing after all the fancy videos and commerical spots are over. An artist like lil Wayne can put on the hottest show with all the tricks and fancy backgrounds on stage, but when it's all said and done he is paying for it out his pocket; now I realize why most of his videos are really crappy. I also learned the reason why I hear Beyonce every 5 minutes on the radio, she and her label are paying the radio stations to play her music. This is called Payola! (A NEW WORD YAY!) I always get mad when I hear the same songs being played over and over. Most of the radio's playlist of music are Payolas....they have to play it over and over again....I believe it's recorded. Artists like Brittany spears is apart of Senergy, which is an artist and a company in coherence with each other. Basically, I'll help you out if you return the favor. That's why my dad always told me it's better to be the producer than the actual artist. Coming from a talented family I know why my dad does most of hi own producing instead of having someone else do it, because you keep the money. Hey it pays to be a big artist!<3

  1. About the radio station play list part, idk if they have to play them in a certain order or not. My mom used to work for WIIL rock and they did have a payola playlist, but they could dj it in whatever order they wanted. I bet they make them play the new song at certain times. Like that puff or pass? (do u know what i mean by that... i think it used to be on 102.1 when they were a station here)

  2. I have a friend that interns at KISS in Milwaukee and when I talked ot her about this she had told me that they do have a set playlist that they have to work off of where they have to play a certain list of songs within a certain amount of time and due to call in request and what not they are only allowed to play a song once every hour or so. They have a similar program to puff or pass in which they play two songs back to back and you call/text in your vote for which one you liked better. I always figured the glamorous artist life was where it was at but now having a small background of the industry it seems to pay much better to be the one behind the scenes putting in the work.
